Equipment you need to make jam

Making Jam is one the easiest ways of preserving, if you have the correct equipment.

To make jam you will need:

A Maslin Jam Pan

A stainless steel Maslin Jam pan is used when making jam because it has a thick, heavy base which protects the jam from burning. It also holds a lot of mixture and if you want to make chutneys then you will also need a stainless steel preserving pan.

A Jam Funnel

Essential to avoid making a lot of messs! A jam funnel is a stainless steel funnel which is used for putting the jam into jars without it going everywhere and sticking to the sides of the funnel. We have both standard and non stick available.

A sugar thermometer

A sugar thermometer is used when making jam because its temperature range is much greater than an ordinary thermometer and can be used to make sure the jam mixture is 105°C so that it will set.

A Ladle

A ladle is used when you transfer the jam through the jam funnel and into the jars.
